Project aims to understand Basic Structural Principles: Study how structures work and how basic structural concepts are applied, and how they are complemented when designing complex structures with the help of Computational Tools and Parametric Design, such as structural element analysis and parametric modelling. To achieve how to use these tools both effectively and intentionally, and to reflect on and inform a broader, human-driven creative process.
This project explores passive design strategies to transform existing buildings in tropical regions into climate-resilient New Environments. By rejecting traditional hermetic envelopes, the curriculum uses environmental simulation modelling and climate analysis to design transitional zones that mediate extreme climatic variables like solar radiation and temperature.
In Sao Paolo, 2.9 million people live in slums, representing roughly 14% of the population.
Drawing on the sources and our analysis of the environmental challenges in São Paulo’s informal settlements, Favela, the project’s strategy is structured around three scenarios. Each scenario studies the current situation through environmental simulation modelling and employs passive design strategies to transform thermally precarious dwellings into
climate-resilient new environments.
The 2024 Paris Olympics introduced a fleet of game-changing electric water taxis to promote transportation along the Seine. With this niche enacting itself within the marine transport industry in countries like Norway and the Netherlands, the call for speciality ports is becoming increasingly inevitable. Le-Havre’s position along the English Channel and its pre-existing foothold as Europe’s fifth-largest cargo port create a prime location for a new node for Le-Havre’s chokehold on the industry.
The theatre, through the duality of masks, becomes a quest for unconventional narratives, redefining itself not as a mere space for performances but as a catalyst for transformation. By blending the rhythms of public life with theatrical masks, it reshapes the local arena, turning it into a dynamic urban device of inspiration where the essence of the human spirit and the potential for change are revealed, inspiring life beyond the stage.
The project aims to provide a solution to the existing building facade by rethinking the connection between function and form, between the exterior and interior of the space. The architectural idea develops from a framing view of the River Tay, bringing light in through the internal void and most importantly, allowing visual interaction between different studio levels, together with partition walls featuring dual-sided usage that allow for efficient use of storage space. Foldable walls can be used to convert the area into larger studio spaces when needed. Additionally, the light void
along the corridor provides social seating spaces. The building will serve as a catalyst for students to exchange ideas across different subject areas, fostering creativity and continuous engagement.
How do we create Beauty from within, even from shapes as simple as
a square?
In the Mathematics of the Ideal Villa by Colin Rowe, he mentioned that beauty comes from natural and customary. The villa considered the symmetry principle and the thought of user experience, separating public and private spaces in the villa. The walls on each floor act as supports, allowing the flexibility of a free plan. The cut-away spaces become voids and green spaces on all floors. Encouraging the blend of interior and outdoor spaces.
The project is located within the natural reserve at Lochwinnoch, where the new building will accommodate RSPB offices, a tourism centre, a café-restaurant, workshops, and an observatory tower. The design concept emphasises the quality of light and the
circulation experience throughout the space. An entrance on the centre axis frames the viewpoint through the building, highlighting the lake’s view. The staff offices and the restaurant are strategically positioned along a pathway that creates spatial depth. Creating a hierarchy of spaces while allowing natural daylight to penetrate deeper into the interior. The design offers a unique experience for visitors and users while minimising the building’s visual impact on the natural landscape.
Dundee, historically a thriving centre during the Industrial Revolution, was renowned for its jute and whaling industries, benefiting from its strategic location along the River Tay. This project aims to focus on the neighbourhood's disconnection with the university and the possible expansion to the technopolis with future student growth, recognised for its groundbreaking life sciences research, which creates immense potential for the local area. The master plan includes an interstitial space between the building that is open to the public realm. Multiple central hubs for various educational and research facilities. It also integrates
housing and academic facilities designed to attract students and researchers from around the world, fostering a vibrant and globally connected community.
What is the potential of space in a hot tropical climate? Could one reflect on its environment, the holism of worlds part, and rethink space through climate emergency, a passive strategy that allows for internal spatial comfort.
