A STAGE FOR ALL LONDONERS, UPON
WHICH THE MEANING OF OUR SHARED
EXISTENCE IS ENDLESSLY PERFORMED.
This project proposes an urban theatre for metropolitan life, situated
in the rapidly transforming district of Elephant & Castle in London. The theatre
of the metropolis consists not only of the building itself but of the totality of neighbouring sites, permeating the otherwise anonymous urban fabric.
It presents to the city a new way of living, a paradigmatic celebration of
metropolitan life, emphasizing public discourse which was once symbolic,
social, and material. The fantastical dimensions of metropolitanism placing
the city at the center of its own representational and experiential narrative,
are pivotal in shaping the modern identity, challenging the fragmentation
typical of contemporary urban development by staging a continuous
spatial experience where fashion, identity, and capital converge.
